Cederman Gleditsch Buhaug 2013Cederman, Lars-Erik, Kristian Skrede Gleditsch, and Halvard Buhaug. 2013. Inequality, Grievances, and Civil War. New York: Cambridge University Press.

In this book we argue that political and economic inequalities following group lines generate grievances that can motivate civil war. Whereas much of contemporary research on civil war tends to dismiss the relevance of grievances in favor of opportunity structures, we develop new indicators at the theoretically appropriate group level and demonstrate that political and economic marginalization exert strong effects on civil war risk.
